Warhammer rumble

Well, you can´t win them all. I did a test piece for Games Workshop and Warhammer some time ago (time flies)
It was a bunch of fun but I guess I went a little crazy because they replied that my piece didn´t stay true to the attached miniature reference. But I was welcome to paint a new one with the same brief.
Well, we´ll see if I can muster the time.

Ermine rider

An ermine riding a motorcycle? With human hair on it's head? And a little soul patch?
Well, of course!

Flashback Friday - Temi nostalgia!

I play games! Boardgames, tabletop RPGs et cetera, et cetera and so on. It's fun.
A few weeks ago me and a couple OBOPOFOM started talking about games from the past. Games that we played as teenagers. Games that we still play, just a little different. What a flashback!
I don't want to bore you with my nostalgic rambling about games and whatnot. Instead I'm going to bore you with beards. Yes you heard me right. BEARDS! Beards are incredible "hip" here in sweden right now. If you want to be awesome and I really mean AWESOME, start growing that facial hair.
But the end of the hipster is near some say, so I'm not going to give you advice on that matter.
If you're not a dwarf that is. Dwarves in fantasy fiction has always been awesome. Why? Because they always have freakin beards, that's why!

Throwback Thursday

So it's time for me to try this Throwback stuff out.
Some years ago I made a couple of illustrations for a bedtime story about a little troll. In the midst of the illustration process the company pulled the brakes, paid for the work I had done and basically went belly up. And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. Days became months. Months became years. And for five long years, the illustrations passed out of all knowledge...

Enough said... It's about time for this little troll to see the light of day!

Karl Kämpe - Den Franska Kanaljen, novel two

So, I'm back with some illustrations for Jörgen Karlssons book about the carolean Karl Kämpe (Caroleans (Swedish: karoliner) were the soldies of the Swedish kings Charles XI and Charles XII)
The book is planned to be divided in eight shorter novels and this is part two.
You can download the two released novels about Karl's adventures at: THIS SITE

For the first novel I painted the cover, this time around I got to do the cover and two illustrations in greyscale. Enjoy!

World book

Today I got my sample of the new world book for the swedish RPG Svavelvinter. One nice suprise was that Fria Ligan (Free league publishing) put a neat brown tint on my grayscale illustrations. Old as well as new. I'm posting some of the new illustrations below, but you can also check out the "Winter is upon us" post for other new illustrations done for this book.

Merry Christmas!

Winter is upon us

The first real snow has fallen and what could be more suitable than a few illustrations that I made for Fria Ligans ( Free League publishing's) upcoming worldbook for the RPG Svavelvinter? (Sulphurwinter)
A lot I guess.

This way around I got to do some character-portraits and a few creatures that roams the lands in Erik Granströms fantasy novels and in the role-playing game.
The Grotebelia pic can be found on Erik's own blog where he writes short about it. The character Grotebelia from his books is actually based on one of his own daughters as a child. Both in appearance and manners. Now that's a fun fact for all the Granström fans out there.

Celebrate good times, come on!

It looks like I've found myself a niche... Chimney sweepers for the win!
This painting is for a sweeper that's going to retire after 48 years in the business (if I recall it correctly)
Now that's a celebration!

Master sweep jubilee

A few months back I got this commission to make a painting of a local Master Chimney sweeper for his ten year anniversary. So after a long wait I can finally post it here. His near and dear ones threw him a party and handed him the painting yesterday. It was a success!

I tip my hat to you, wishing you many more years in the business to come.

What's the word? Angry Bird!

When my little boy was about to turn six, he wanted me to make him a special birthday cake. Every time we spoke about it, he changed his mind about it's appearance. When we had reached around seven different types of cakes I had to step in and make the decision for him... Angry Birds! And no, not the women that get angry when you try to pick them up at the local watering hole, we're talking about the world phenomena game developed by Rovio Entertainment Ltd.

Ok, I admit that I went a little overboard on this one. I stopped at Two pig-cakes and around twenty chocolate balls draped with Angry Bird and Pig suits of marzipan.

So Rovio, when it's time for your anniversary, give me a call. Ok?

Application sketches

I was browsing thru the folders on my desktop the other day and found a pair of sketches for a job application a few years back.
I landed the job, a couple of children's bedtime stories illustrations, but as far as I know they ended up unused.
The publisher is probably not still in business and the illustrations collects cyberdust, but I think it's high time for the application sketches to enter the scene. I post far too few sketches...

Bake my day!

When I can't find the time to illustrate and paint I have to come up with other ways to channel my creativity. One thing that I found suprisingly fun was making birthday cakes for my kids. It's not only appealing for your gums and sweet-tooth, it can be a joy for the eyes as well.
I'm not a professional baker in any way, all is done at home in my kitchen, but if you're not all thumbs when it comes to the edible "arts" you can do it. Just allow yourself to have fun and plan ahead, because it takes a lot of time, at least for me. That's why I only do it a couple of times every year.

Commission

Here´s a commission that I made some time ago. It´s a little different  from my normal work, but hey, varietas delectat: Variety is the spice of life, especially when it comes to art and culture.

Logen Ninefingers aka The Bloody-Nine

Some time ago I read Joe Abercrombie's The First law trilogy followed by Best served cold, The Heroes and Red Country. These books are, hands down, some of the best fantasy novels around. I could not put them down. Hard and gritty dark fantasy. So very totally cool!

I don't know if Mr. Abercrombie is writing more books, set in the world of The First Law, but I really truly hope so.

When you read a book, or a story, you always paint up your own image of what characters look like. Mine, as many others, favourite character from Abercrombie's books is Logen Ninefingers. I looked around on the internet for paintings for Ninefingers but I couldn't find a pic that fit my image of him. So I had to sit down and make my own. So here it comes. My first "fanart" in many a year. My version of Logen Ninefingers aka The Bloody-Nine.
